Oakland Aikido first held class on May 1, 2024, and we are now two years old! This is all thanks to our amazingly supportive global Aikido community and we are eternally grateful. Over these two years, we've hosted awesome guest instructors from Washington D.C.; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Los Angeles, California; Portland, Maine; Aylesbury, UK; Oslo and Stavanger, Norway; and Berlin, Germany. We've ironed out kinks, faced setbacks, navigated growing pains, received incredible generosity, and learned so much about what it means to be uke and go with the flow.

Finding ways to practice embodied, empowered physical expression has never been more important than it is today given the state of our world. The reclamation of physicality among oppressed populations is a radical act and our mission at Oakland Aikido is to support that process.

As we enter our third year, we are feeling called to grow: more mats, more people, and more training opportunities. Sign up for our mailing list for updates.

Finally, we’d like to acknowledge the non-profit organization that hosts our dojo: Crisis Support Services of Alameda County. They offer our communities incredible mental health resources and have so generously housed Oakland Aikido since November of 2024.
