as part of our commitment to respecting ourselves, our training partners, and the dojo, please observe the following personal hygiene practices

before class

  • check your finger and toenails- trim and/or file them as needed to prevent injury

  • wash your hands and feet — wiping your feet with a wet wipe or damp paper towel will suffice

  • wash armpits — for obvious reasons (+ most deodorants have a tendency to stain your keikogi)

during class

  • wear shoes when not on the mat, especially when you go to the bathroom (this helps us keep the mat clean)

after class

  • wash your hands again!

As with much of our training, we invite you to make a mindfulness practice out of how you wear and care for your keikogi

Where to buy:

how to put on your keikogi

note: not all jackets have the ties at the sides, and some include a tie at the sternum. And not all pants have loops! If you’re confused, ask one of your senpai

how to tie your obi (belt)

we recommend the second method of wrapping your belt (1:36), and the second (“secure”) method of tying the knot (3:24)

keikogi care

Fold your keikogi neatly to avoid wrinkles. This video shows one method of doing so.

Please wash your keikogi regularly, after each class if necessary. Refer to the manufacturer’s instructions for specific care needs.
